The President of the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Hawaii is the leader of the Board of Directors, with voting privileges. The president is the face of RPCV Hawaii, and s/he plays a vital role in the organization’s success. The president leads the organization but is not the sole authority. S/He must collaborate with the rest of the Board to perpetuate a healthy organization.
The President will:
- Arrange and conduct Board meetings
- Serve as a liaison between RPCVHI, committees, the community, the National Peace Corps Association, Peace Corps Washington, and other National Peace Corps Association groups.
- Recruit officers if a position is vacated between elections.
- Ensure bylaws are upheld.

The Vice President is a member of the Board of Directors and has voting privileges. The Vice President plays an important, often behind-the-scenes role, in the operation of the RPCVHI organization. The organization Vice President can serve more effectively by understanding the year’s goals, budget, projects, and activities, and being well versed in community and RPCVHI and NPCA resources. To that end, it is important that the organization president and vice president work together as a team.
The Vice President also acts as the “officer at large,” responsible for all assignments that are designated by the President. A well-organized and responsible Vice President is often the key to a successful RPCVHI year. The Vice President can reduce the administrative load, allowing time for the President to develop new and exciting organization projects and activities.
The Vice President will:
- Act as the President in the absence of the President.
- Assist the President on the President’s duties, or other specified duties.
- Coordinate with and assist the local Peace Corps representative.
- Ensure that Board matters are handled properly, including preparation of pre-meeting materials, committee functioning, and orientation of new Board members.
- Acts as a resource to the President the first year.

The RPCVHI Secretary is a member of the Board of Directors with voting privileges. The Secretary has many responsibilities that require a person who is detail oriented, organized, and produces in a timely manner. Because the Secretary promotes the organization through correspondence to the members sponsor(s), outside agencies, prospective members, National Peace Corps Association, Peace Corps Partnership Program, etc., this individual must have good verbal and written communication skills.
The Secretary will:
- Keep records required by ORS 65.771, such as minutes from business meetings, update Bylaws and send annual reports to the Secretary of State.
- Maintain membership with the National Peace Corps Association, including writing and submitting the annual organizational report to the NPCA office in Washington, DC.
- Prepare and distribute (including email) ballots with a brief biographical sketch of interested candidates for Board membership to the voting membership, tablulate results at the Annual Meeting after voting occurs, and submit results to the President for announcement.

The RPCVHI Treasurer is a member of the Board of Directors with voting privileges. As the collector and disburser of organization funds, the treasurer is responsible for monitoring the organization’s solvency and financial stability. This person should be comfortable working with money and very detail oriented.
The Treasurer will:
- Be in charge of all funds belonging to the organization.
- Keep on deposit the funds.
- Receive and disburse funds as required.
- Keep all financial records.

A Board Member has voting privileges. Board members play an important, often behind-the-scenes role, in the operation of the RPCVHI organization. Board members serve most effectively by understanding the year’s goals, budget, projects, and activities, and being well versed in community and RPCVHI and NPCA resources. To that end, it is important that the organization Board members work effectively as a team with the President and Vice President.
Each Board Member will:
- Serve as a role model for organization members by promoting RPCVHI whenever possible, maintaining a positive attitude, and attending all organization functions.
- Assist the President and the Board in regularly monitoring progress towards organization goals
- Commit to following up and completing tasks on a timely basis
- Engage in the successful planning, implementation, and celebration of organization meetings and events
- Commit financial and solicitation support for specified RPCVHI fundraising activities
- Provide a written letter of resignation upon the decision to resign
